Straight Path

Kids

The majority of patients undergoing orthodontic care are children and teens. When kids are young, their jaws are constantly growing to accommodate new teeth. It is during this time that the teeth are easily moved, allowing for a shorter treatment time – especially in patients who undergo early treatment.

  • Jaw is disproportionate to the face
  • Has a habit of frequent thumb-sucking
  • Chronically breathes from the mouth rather than the nose
  • Primary teeth fall out too soon or too late
  • Exhibits malocclusion (overbite/underbite)
  • Visible crowding

Teens

Dental braces have come a long way since they were invented in the 1800’s. Today, Americans and residents of are privy to a bevy of tooth-straightening options, each of which offers different benefits. Currently, the most popular types of braces used in include:

  • Metal Braces – Modern metal braces are sleeker, smaller, and more comfortable than ever before.
  • Clear Ceramic Braces – For teens who prefer braces but not so much the look, clear braces are the way to go.
  • Invisalign Teen – Invisalign has grown in popularity among teens. Invisalign Teen includes sets of plastic retainer-like aligners that you pop into your mouth every two weeks.

Adults

Everyone deserves a smile they can be proud of, and many achieve straightened, well-aligned teeth after undergoing orthodontic treatment as a child. But for adults who do not have the privilege of having straight teeth, orthodontics are still an option. In fact, there is no such thing as being too old for orthodontic treatment.

  • MYTH: Adults don’t get braces.
  • FACT: Approximately 20 percent of all orthodontic patients are adults over age 18.
  • MYTH: I don’t want to spend years in braces.
  • FACT: You probably won’t have to. Many adults complete orthodontic treatment in just months.
